How Grow gave its users one-tap access to curated portfolios

In today’s day and age, most people do not want to pick stocks. Choosing between thousands of individual tickers, deciding how much to put in each one, and keeping that mix on track is the reason so many new investors open an app, buy one or two positions, and never come back. The interest is there. The starting point is not.

Grow saw that gap in its own product. Its users could already buy stocks, ETFs, and crypto one at a time, but they could not put money behind a whole theme in a single tap. Building that in-house would have meant creating and maintaining portfolio infrastructure from scratch: the strategies themselves, per-user accounts, position tracking, routing, and everything that keeps a basket aligned over time.

Working with Glider

Glider is the portfolio infrastructure for onchain finance. Grow integrated the Glider API and launched Grow Strategies on July 21, giving its users a library of curated, thematic portfolios: the Magnificent Seven, top semiconductors, AI, asset managers, and dozens more.

Grow surfaced the portfolios inside its own product whilst Glider handles everything underneath:

  • A dedicated non-custodial account for each Grow user, holding that user’s portfolio without commingling
  • Indexing, position tracking, and PNL, exposed back to Grow through the API
  • Trade routing, cross-chain deposits, and gas

Because the accounts are non-custodial, neither Grow nor Glider holds user assets. The integration required no new smart contracts, no audit, and no change to Grow’s security posture.

Grow also gained access to the incentives Glider negotiates with asset issuers and chains. Glider passes those reward campaigns straight through to integrators’ users, and Grow’s users receive them with no additional work on Grow’s side.

"We were able to integrate end-to-end in less than a week. If we wanted to implement our own rebalancing self-custodially, this would have been a massive technical undertaking. Additionally, Glider's direct mint and burn relationships with issuers like Ondo enable pricing that far outpaces onchain competitors” — Michael Horenstein, Founder of Grow

Building custom strategies

Glider’s existing portfolios were the starting point, not the limit. Using the same API, Grow authored strategies of its own.

From public disclosure data, Grow created a portfolio for every politician’s disclosed trades. It did the same for major investors and funds using their public 13F filings, and added its own themes across sectors including semiconductors, AI, and asset managers.

The result is a catalog in the hundreds, running inside a consumer app distributed in 150 countries.

Impact

For the Grow team

A full strategies product without building portfolio infrastructure. Grow kept its engineering focus on the parts of the product only Grow can build and earns on every dollar its users hold in a portfolio, through fees it configures itself in the API. A sticky revenue line that accrues from assets sitting in the product rather than from daily activity.

For Grow’s users

One tap into a diversified position instead of a decision between thousands of tickers. A user picks a theme, deposits once, and holds the whole basket, with the portfolio kept aligned in the background and no manual work required.

"With Glider, we are able to offer highly differentiated baskets of assets, like an AI basket including exposure to both public equities and private companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. We also have added an AI layer allowing users to create their own strategies based on their own preferences. Without them, this would have not been possible” — Michael Horenstein, Founder of Grow

What’s next

Integrate once, and it keeps paying off. Every new market, asset, and strategy Glider ships shows up in Grow’s app with no extra work, and they never take custody of a thing.

Their users invest better and Grow earns more.
